Farewell ceremony of Representative of the Swiss Red Cross in Vietnam

On December 27th in Hanoi, the Vietnam Red Cross held a farewell ceremony and awarded Medal for Humanitarian Work to Ms. Ruth Lane, Swiss Red Cross Representative in Vietnam.

Attending farewell ceremony were Mdm. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, President of the Vietnam Red Cross; Mr. Tran Quoc Hung, Vice President of the Vietnam Red Cross; representatives of technical departments.

Speaking at the farewell ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, President of the Vietnam Red Cross recognized and appreciated the working process of Ms. Ruth Lane in Vietnam. Taking on the position as Country Representative of the Swiss Red Cross in Vietnam from the end of 2014 until now, working in Vietnam for more than 4 years, Ms. Ruth Lane has not only made a positive contribution to the direct operation. continue to direct and support activities within the framework of the cooperation project being implemented between the Vietnam Red Cross and the Swiss Red Cross, always looking for new cooperation opportunities, contributing to promoting the development of cooperation relation between two national societies, especially the project funded by the Swiss Red Cross in Ca Mau, a southern province of Vietnam. With a long distance, the capacity of the local Red Cross is still limited, Ms. Ruth Lane directly involved in directing, along with the Vietnam Red Cross Project Management Board to solve the difficulties in the process of promoting effective implementation of programs/projects supported by the Swiss Red Cross in Vietnam.

Ms. Ruth Lane will finish her work in Vietnam today (December 28th), on behalf of the Vietnam Red Cross, Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu would like to express her sincere thanks for great contribution during Ruth Lanes time. And hopefully no matter what position, Ruthi Lane will continue to support and accompany the Vietnam Red Cross in humanitarian careers.

Ms. Ruth Lane, Representative of the Swiss Red Cross in Vietnam, was deeply moved to thank the Vietnam Red Cross for organizing the farewell ceremony today, she shared: 4 years ago for the first time to Vietnam I dont really know what I expect and work in Vietnam. But in a very short time I knew and understood about the Vietnam Red Cross. Vietnam Red Cross is a national association that plays a very important role in the humanitarian field, which is to take care of the Tet for the poor and Agent Orange victims, Cow Bank, respond to natural disasters, Disaster … The National Red Cross Chapter always tries its best to work with partners in humanitarian activities, with the desire to bring a better life to the poor.

Ms. Ruth Lane hopes that in the future, she will continue to work with the Vietnam Red Cross and hope that the cooperation between the Swiss Red Cross and the Vietnam Red Cross is always good and growing to new height.

The Swiss Red Cross operates in Vietnam from the 1960s of the 20th century, with activities mainly concentrated in South and Central Vietnam. Since 2010, the Swiss Red Cross has begun implementing procedures for registration of operations and appointing an official representative of permanent residence in Vietnam. Since then, activities have not only been limited to the areas of emergency relief and disaster recovery, but have been diverted to community-based disaster risk reduction and disaster risk management activities, aiming to build community resilience before disasters.

On this occasion, Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, President of Vietnam Red Cross awarded the Medal for Humanitarian Work – the highest award of the Vietnam Red Cross to Ms. Ruth Lane, Representative of the Swiss Red Cross in Vietnam.
