Can Tho: Free cooking lessons for poor women

On March 27, at Ninh Kieu District Political Education Center, Can Tho City Red Cross cooperated with Ninh Kieu District Womens Vocational Training Center to hold the closing ceremony and certified 3 cooking vocational classes for 78/90 women students who are poor and disadvantaged in the districts: Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy and Cai Rang. Students were supported with 1 vocational kit, each worth VND 600,000 by Can Tho City Red Cross.

The “Cooking vocational training for poor women project” was funded by Vinataba Philip Morris Branch in Ho Chi Minh City, worth USD 40,000. The purpose of the project is to provide knowledge and skills for poor and disadvantaged women who need vocational training but do not  have enough money to go to training centre.

During the course, students are taught and supported by enthusiastic teachers, equipped with basic knowledge about pruning vegetables – fruits, practicing at prestigious cooking facilities in City, up to the basic menu for family dishes and can open small shops.

After the course, Can Tho City Red Cross will continue to coordinate with the District Vocational Training Center and teachers to connect with prestigious cooking facilities to introduce jobs; Difficult students are supported with micro credit, each of VND 5 million which creates conditions for women to have jobs with the skills they have learned, helping them to have stable income and better life.
