Assistance to Agent Orange Victims: - 10/06/2007 08:48:16 AM

VNRC is carrying out these activities to assist victims of Agent Orange sprayed during the war. The Agent Orange Fund of VNRC has been established at all levels of Red Cross organizations. The Fund’s main task is to seek humanitarian assistance from domestic and foreign sources to assist Agent Orange victims countrywide with concrete activities of health examinations, orthopedic surgery, functional rehabilitation, education, multiple types of vocational training basing on types of deformity to help them re-integrated in community, credit assistance to develop farming and live-stock raising.

§         The Agent Orange Fund at VNRC National Headquarters was established on July 24, 1998.

§         The Fund has succeeded to mobilize VND 23 billion from all sources to assist 220,429 AO victims to improve their physical and mental lives during 5 years of operation.

§         The Agent Orange Vict Fund has been founded at 59 provincial chapters, earning a donation worth over VND 55 billion to assist Agent Orange victims in provinces.

Major activities are focusing on primary health care, dissemination and communication on healthy and hygiene knowledge, awareness raising on diseases prevention in favor of Red Cross staffs and community, plantation of herbal trees, construction of first-aid position. Besides that, the under-going services are deployment of blood donation, first – aids movement, mobilisation of healthy habit and environment protection.

We combine our works with international cooperation and development of external relations with governmental organizations, NGOs, especially the RCRC Movement: the ICRC, IFRC, sister National societies. Our final goal in the field is to mobilize power of humanity to improve the lives of vulnerable people as well as to contribute to the development of RC Movement.

At present, VNRC’s partners comprise sister National societies of Great Britain, Austria, Demark, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Belgium, France, Australia, China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, The US, Korea and the ICRC, IFRC as well as other institutions like Land O’Lakes (US), US Department of Agriculture, World Scout. We are carrying out more than 50 projects under cooperation with international partners in the fields of disaster management, health care, humanitarian values development, capacity building.
